WordStar for Windows

Creating Or Modifying A Template

Templates are the framework for WordStar for Windows documents. By using templates, often-repeated formatting tasks can be automatically performed by WordStar for Windows

To create a template, follow these steps:

  1. Choose New from the File menu.
  2. Select a template that is most similar to the template you want to create. To start with a blank page, use the default template.
  3. Make desired changes to the template. You can add frames, placeholder text, or other elements. For example, you could make company letterhead by inserting a graphic of your company's logo at the top of the page, then placing the address underneath the graphic. You can also change paragraph styles, frame styles, and other settings. For information on these procedures, consult the WSWIN Help File.
  4. Choose Save from the File menu.
  5. Select WSWin Templates from the Quick Paths list.
  6. Type the name of the new template in the Filename text box. For example, you could name the file LTRHEAD, for your company letterhead. WordStar will add the extension for you, or you can type .wst for the extension. Then Click on OK to save the file.

You have made a new template. It will appear in the list of templates whenever you create a new file in WordStar for Windows.

To start a new document based on this template, Click on File, then on New. Now Double-Click on your template, and WordStar for Windows will create a new document with the layout options you created in your template.

To modify an existing template, follow steps one through five above. Then, save the template under the template's original name. For example, to modify DEFAULT.WST, save it under the name DEFAULT.WST. WordStar for Windows will ask if the file that already exists should be replaced. Click on Yes to save the changes to this template.
