WordStar for DOS (All Versions)

WordStar Can't Print, Under Microsoft Windows, After Inset has been Used

Introduction

When Inset has been used to insert graphics in a WordStar file the file won't print under Windows.

Solution

Turn OFF Print Spooling for this printer used with WordStar. If you don't use Inset the spooling can be left in its default ON setting.

Instructions for Windows 9x

If you use Inset to insert graphics in your WordStar files you will need to turn OFF DOS spooling in the Windows printer properties.

  1. Select Start > Settings > Printers

  2. Select the printer you use with WordStar

  3. Right-Click on the printer and select Properties...

  4. Select the Details tab

  5. Click the Port Settings button

  6. Ensure that the Spool MS-DOS print jobs option is NOT checked

  7. Click OK, OK to close all dialog boxes

The file should now print correctly.

  2. Select the printer you use with WordStar

  3. Right-Click on the printer and select Properties...

  4. Click the Advanced tab

  5. Ensure that the Print directly to the printer radio button is selected (not the Spool print documents so the program finishes printing faster option)

  6. Click OK to close the printer properties dialog box.

  7. Close the Printers & Faxes window.

The file should now print correctly.
