Introduction

WordStar for Windows Mail List Starts With a Creating Index Error Message

Creating Index Error: There is not enough space to create the index on drive \

Cause

During a reinstallation, perhaps of Windows, the Wordstar for Windows Mail List initialisation file (wsml.ini) has been lost or corrupted.

Solution

Check for the existence of a file called wsml.ini in your C:\WINDOWS or C:\WINNT directory, as appropriate.

If the file is missing, either:

  • reinstall WordStar for Windows Mail List,
  • copy a backup copy of the wsml.ini file into the Windows directory,
  • create a new default wsml.ini file using Windows Notepad.

To create a new wsml.ini file using Windows Notepad:

  1. Start Windows Notepad program from the Accessories Group in Windows 3.x, or from the Start, Programs, Accessories menu in later versions of Windows.

  2. Enter the text below:

    [ABX]
    LastDbfName=C:\WSWIN\MAILDATA\WSMLADD.DBF
    LastDbfType=0
    Date Format=2
    LastIndex=6

    [ABX LIST NAMES WSMLADD]
    List1Name=LIST1
    List2Name=LIST2
    List3Name=LIST3

    [ABX USER NAMES WSMLADD]
    User1Name=USER1
    User2Name=USER2
    User3Name=USER3

  3. Save the file in the C:\WINDOWS directory (for Windows 3.x/9x/Me/XP home) or the C:\WINNT directory (for Windows NT/2000/XP Professional) with the name wsml.ini

Note: The Date Format line can be set to the following values

  • for US MM/DD/YY
  • for UK/International DD/MM/YY
  • for German DD.MM.YY
  • for Italian DD-MM-YY formats

You can modify any of these later from the WordStar for Windows Mail List, Edit, Preferences menu.

If you have changed any of the User Names or Sublist names in the Edit Preferences menu of WordStar for Windows Mail List you can modify these values in the ini file settings above or through the Edit, Preferences menu.

The LastDbfName given above is the default.
