I have searched for a copy of the add-on printer disk for wordstar professional 4.0 it supports the hp laserjet series II and consequently all newer laserjets, ws4 is on my win98 pc and i use it as an editor, esp in column mode I have not read the comments as my eyesight , even on a 17" monitor is not good enough. I have looked thru ws4 packages offered for sale at flea markets for this disk. I even bought another copy at a flea market several years ago as it looked unused ( $15.00) I would appreciate recievinmg a image of that floppy as it was a free add-on offered by wordstar a few years after wordstar 4 was sold. wdegroot@ptd.net

Having bought a new computer, I need some software... NO NO NO ! Having bought WordStar, I need to buy a computer to run it on ! Quite true - I bought the software before the hardware - by a few months. WS6 remains on my PCs and is used occasionally - mainly for 'database' functions and power editing. That's why it gets a plug on a web site I look after ! (pushbikes) It's time WS6 (or7) for DOS in Windows was available ! I'd hate to think the DOS versions were downgraded to Windows standard like other DOS conversions have been done. There isn't much wrong with WS6 - mainly lack of graphics - and printer drivers (PDFs to thee & me !) Is there a WordStar users group ? Mike. For URL/ contact details, search for 'pmailkeey' !

delighted to find this excellent site. I began w/ WStar on an Osborne when I was advised not to go that way, but I learned MS-Dos while my boss ridiculed me having a 'modern' KayPro at his fingertips. I made a serious mistake letting go of my last dos machine which accomodated 5 1/4 disks, but also the little ones. Then I was given via gift a Windows machine, new, w/ all the software loaded & learned the microsoft word processor, leaving good old WStar behind. Now I have a complete new 20 disk set of 5 1/4 in Wordstar floppys & no way to install them. For some unknown reason I have 4-5 2 1/2 disks full of my writing & no way to read them. I think if I re-install the Microsoft word processor there's an option to convert files into the XP version. I'm SO lazy, but I did enjoy WordStar & would gladly go back altho the one now on XP runs pretty good for me. 1st, I must!!!! convert my 5 1/4 set to the smaller disks or CD & put it on my IBM Aptiva which has a crashed (won't boot) W-98, but otherwise a good machine. Today, I glad I went up thru the chairs learning DOS along the way, & also somehow glad I never went the Apple route. You have a nice, attractive, valuable site & glad I found it. Cheers.

I was the New York City sales rep for MicroPro back in the day... I had yearly sales of about 3-4 Million annually and I handled all of the big accounts like Libeboat Associates, 47th Street Photo and others. Glad to see that there are still people using the product. I would love to know if there are other former employees out there too! We had a fun time!
La palabra WordStar para mi, es como la palabra ATARI, sinónimos de magia, y de una época que uno recuerda con nostalgia. Lástima... hoy, todos somos como esclavos del Word. Gracias.(Thanks)

It wasn't Fred Haney, it was H. Glen Haney who took over for Seymour Rubinstein when MicroPro went public. If you've ever sold software, and you've got a few years in this industry, this book will warm your heart! Also, anyone looking for a history of MicroPro and many other old software companies should read this book: http://www.insearchofstupidity.com/index.html This was written by Rick Chapman, another former MicroPro employee.
Has WordStar been ported to Apple X11? I remember it fondly from BBS days in 1994. Before that, it was green letters on a black background at the local city college computer lab.

I have been trying to register for membership. I need help with my wordstar program but cannot seem to get the registration right. It tells me I am registered but I have not received an e-mail to that effect. Please let me know what to do as soon as possible as I really need some input for a problem I have with my Wordstar 3.31 (would you believe it!) program. Thanks so much for your attention. Elinor M. I recently discovered that I have about 25 - 3.5 discs full of what I believe are Wordstar 7.0 DOS files. Many of the files are such as bellhop.522, theater.585, mirror.fil, oggivr12.cln, etc. These files were documentations that I and my English department had prepared in the lmid and late 1980s and early 1990s. I have a complete set of Wordstar 7.0 DOS Discs, and I am wondering how I can install and run this Wordstar DOS 7.0 program on a Windows XP Professional Computer in order to test and open these files? I also have a complete set of Wordstar 2.0 for Windows discs, and a CD with the entire 6 Wordstar 2.0 for Windows discs converted to it. The Wordstar 2.0 for Windows is currently installed on the computer, but it will not recognize or open any of the above mentioned files. So, if anyone has any suggestions, I will appreciate some 'back-and'forth.' I also am on MSN Messenger 7.0, under the email address bearapso@msn.com, so I can communicate quite readily there. Cheers, Ralph

Well, well! And here I thought I was the only one still using WS in the USA! I was in charge of International tech support for several years when WS was in San Rafael and then in Novato - and I closed the place down; the accountant and I were the only ones left in the building that is now Portal that used to hold 300 people on 3 floors... I still have WS 7.0D installed on my PC and I use it to manage mailing lists and large ASCII files that need fast handling (flies on a Pentium 4 dual-core!!!). And then I use Wordstar for Windows 2.0 *daily* for my invoicing (I run Gilles' Computer Works in Santa rosa, been in business since 1985). Would be fun to connect with some of the people behind the scenes as I still have some internal WordStar material that could be of interest. Feel free to contact me.

Stunned to see there are still WS users! A son and I developed a macro program, initially for WS 3.3 (CP/M) and then ported it to DOS WS 3.3 and 3.31. We dropped it after that. It is a Pascal program which patches into the user patch areas. It came with libraries of predetermined macros and you could make your own macros (Phrases). About 84 macros were supplied, focusing on emulating functions available on dedicated word processors, error reduction, code avoidance, and keystroke reduction. Does anyone still use these old WS versions? PhraseStar works flawlessly and was a great help. Unfortunately, I didn't have marketing $ and Wordperfect was taking over, so I went back to full-time law practice. Anyway, if some people are interested, I might upload the program, although the keyboard template, icon stickers for the keys, and User Guide are a different story. Let me know at KIAAAL@SBCGLOBAL.NET. Ken Adler
Hello nice page, i use last year the emulator. I'ts a great service. Best regard and in memorian to the died people in New Orleans because hurrican Kathrina

A professional writer, I was almost thinking I was the last surviving "idiot" to be using WordStar (now 4.0, having only recently -- in the past three years -- upgraded from 3.x, used for the previous 15+ years). Good to find some useful info, and thanks to the man for creating this website. I STILL use DOS-based WS 4.0 for most of my writing, except emails, and if I need to use Word, I convert using STRIP.COM, to strip off the hi-bit, to give an ASCI file that Word will only recognise if I rename it FileName.txt rather than FileName.ASC, as it comes out after "Stripping". Anyway, good to know you other guys exist, also!
Hi! I feel like I'm home. I worked on WS7 and was laid off afterwards. I did techsupport when I started at WS, then printer dev, and lastly QA. Glad to see the interest in WordStar is still alive. Sandy*.

Like the ink stained wretches with their old Underwoods and Remingtons, I keep on using WS6d and WS7 long after it was over. I just installed them from a burned cd to a IBM TP a20m in OS/2 and they work almost like magic. There's none better, as my Scots ancestors would say.
